We have fleshed out each session of the O. conference, as part of O. Professionals programme. See below what we have come out with. From April, we will share key speaker and artist names, once the full O. programme goes online.
Thursday 16 May morning session: Perspectives
Inspired by Woman at Point Zero by Bushra El-Turk, Laila Soliman & LOD, we saw this morning as women’s perspectives to realize then that by singling out, we exclude. What perspectives are heard and amplified? And what voices that supposedly fall outside the norm need space to grow?
For this morning, we changed the traditional format of presentation into a round space of exchange. In small groups moderated by women (and those who identify as women) artists, directors, and decision-makers we will sit with what they bring to the table, a perspective that is near and dear to them.
Thursday 16 May afternoon session: CURARE
Delving into the essence of curation, we explore its roots through etymology, contemplating its dual nature as both a verb for content selection and a noun for practices of care when collaborating with communities. In both cases, the institutional responsibilities towards those who applly to an open call, or engages in a project are tangible and mostly silent or seemingly invisible. How can we bring awareness into power structures and be more transparent?
We will hear insights from the selection process by MTNow competition jury members, 4 women from 4 corners of the globe, who navigated 200 applications. In addition, two MTNow-selected projects collaborated with non-professionals will share their process, results, and plans: Halleluja by Fleur Khani & the Khani Foundation and At Your Doorstep by MarketTheatre & Theater Bielefeld.
Friday 17 May morning session: PLACE
Creating site-specific work includes physical space, its stories, and its people. When does a work contribute to a place, and when it becomes extractive? How can we foster reciprocity? How do we give value to meaning that is already in place?
We give a stage to the dialogue with a place that hosts a performance and inspires it.
MTNow’s selected work The Urban Tale of a Hippo and additional speakers, artists and programmers, will share about the decision to act in a non-neutral space, a place.
Saturday 18 May morning session: Exploration
Exploring and expanding media requires a trial and error mind, a learning process through which one acquires new skills to convey an artistic idea in arenas that are beyond comfort zones. Different artists share their journey in overcoming the challenges, and discovering the possibilities in creating with technologies and media.
MTNow selected Film Opera works selected History of the Present by Maria Fusco and Black Lodge by Beth Morrison Projects will present their work and open a conversation with Netherland-based artists.
Registration to O. Conference sessions
The conference sessions are free of charge but registration is mandatory. How do you do that? All conference sessions (Thursday 16 to Saturday 18) are open for registration – see links in titles. Each event has a limited capacity, so better not to wait and book a spot to network, meet and greet all professionals involved in the programme. In these sessions, we serve lunch, which we encourage you to purchase in advance to stay without interruptions along the sessions. Cost: 0 euros, lunch 25 euros
Locatie
