O. 2022: date announced & start passe-partout sale

Mark it in your diary! O. 2022 will take place from Friday 20 through Sunday 29 May. We’re going all out! For 10 days in May, Rotterdam will be the location to explore and discover opera, music, and theatre. International must-sees, Rotterdam Stories, astonishing new work. The festival will be designed and sculpted over the coming months on an ongoing basis. We will check off our wish lists, scout for talent, look for exciting locations, and dream up bold plans with our partners. And we will update you via the newsletter and our social media.

Have you decided to do the full O. experience in 2022? The all-access pass is going on sale today! Ten festival days, including two complete weekends, as well as Ascension Day (a public holiday!). Go all out for just €179.

The complete program will be announced in the spring of 2022, but a number of highlights have already been announced:

Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe

Good news: Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe will return to O. in May 2022 with the exhilarating performance MADRIGALEN. A very special take on Monteverdi’s repertoire, edgy and brimming with surprises. Something to anticipate with glee! Earlier, Benjamin featured at Operadagen with Les Ballets de la Nuit and during De Avond van de Belofte.

Luke Styles & Jessica Walker

Community project in which Rotterdam stories become input for protest songs. Due to the corona measures, People’s Cabaret was canceled in August, in May 2022 Luke and Jessica will still work with Rotterdammers and the first songs will be presented.

Nicole Beutler Projects

Following the success of her impressive dance opera 8: METAMORPHOSIS, Nicole Beutler has created a brand-new musical all-encompassing experience that confronts us with the sweeping changes that lie in wait. GINKGO was admired as a work in progress in the creative space, O. Lab, at O. 2021. The performance will premiere during O. 2022 in May.

Steef de Jong, Alex Klaassen & orkest

Opera and cabaret may appear to be two radically different worlds but nothing could be further from the truth. In Steef’s O. Show, both art forms merge into a variegated revue with enthralling arias, tear-jerking duets, spectacular scenery, and a lot of humour.
