We’ll Never Let You Down

Cello opera as a loving homage to legendary cellist Jacqueline du Pré

Stichting Cellosonate & OT Rotterdam

The opera We’ll Never Let You Down focuses on two good friends of the famous cellist Jacqueline du Pré; one of the greatest cellists of her time. She died, aged 42, of multiple sclerosis. In this triptych, two of Jackie’s long-time friends look on with great concern how the memories of their loving and talented friend are shamelessly marred by gossip and slander. They do not recognize the radiant Jackie and her indomitable passion and enthusiasm for music in the stories.

“Doris shows herself courageous with this ‘new chamber opera’ as she enters a different phase in her career that is quite exciting – from performer to maker.” – Tobias Kokkelmans (dramaturgy O.)

“Hochscheid, Van Ruth and Van de Woerd stage a fully convincing and sometimes poignant performance that may well score high internationally.”
