Traces of Antigone

Updated version of the ancient myth performed as a hybrid concert

Elli Papakonstantinou (GR)

Traces of Antigone is an overpainting of Antigone’s ancient myth, which explores themes such as gender violence and gender construction. It evolved in response to the global lockdown during the covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing dialogue about presence (and absence). For the first time in recent history, isolation is no longer a purely feminine condition. ODC Ensemble presents a circle of women who are using an entirely new performative language, in real as well as virtual spaces, referred to as, “the theatre of isolation”.

“Elli has grown into one of Europe’s most remarkable makers. A musical-theatrical activist who confronts us with major political issues.” – Tobias Kokkelmans (dramaturgy O.)

“It blew my mind – Elli has figured out a way to make theater on zoom, complete with
music which is sometimes foreground and sometimes background. I found this performance gripping.”

Sara Jobin (conductor and art director of the Center for Contemporary Opera, NY, US)

Locatie
