International festival hit with mesmerizing dance and polyphonic singing

François Chaignaud & Geoffroy Jourdain (FR)

In t u m u l u s, thirteen singing and dancing bodies move around on a burial mound, as if inhabiting a single body. This project is a unique collaboration between the choreographer Francois Chaignaud and artistic director Geoffroy Jourdain, born from a dream to bring together music and dance in an all-encompassing work of art.

The performance revolves around the paradox of a tumulus (burial mound) incorporating the bodies of the living and the dead as well as of any future life forms that grow on top of it. Death always contains new life. The outcome is a musical organism that honours those who are absent with the never-ending movements they are actuating in our bodies. With French, Flemish, Italian, English, and German vocal music ranging from the Renaissance to the 1970s.

A fascinating performance that sees dancing and singing fuse into a unique experience that encompasses a gorgeous mix of musical styles.” – Guy Coolen, artistic director O.

“A stage with perfect songs that take you to the heart, a choreography drawn with a fine brush, where the personality of the performers is nicely perceptible… and the charm carries us away.”
