Sehnsucht

A thriller opera about the desire to be seen

Collectief Ludvik (NL)

Sehnsucht is a new thriller opera about seeing and being seen. A woman loses herself as she desires and seeks to be seen. For what is the value of life if your life is never observed by anyone else? And how do the things you do matter if they catch no one’s attention?

Why does it “matter” whether or not we are seen? Why do we only really matter if this takes place on social media? Why are you only “really” happy or do you only have a “real” relationship if it can be viewed via Instagram? And why do we seek this confirmation, acknowledgement, and approval? Being seen appears to be the new norm, whether positive or negative. Everything is better than, “not being seen”.

For this performance, we recommend an age of 16+ due to themes of abuse of power and (sexual) harassment.

“Ludvik makes the thriller-opera genre its own and does this with bravura. Young talents that create opera for a new generation.” – Hans Blik, managing director O.
