Kissi! Kissi!
Wild and profound gender-fluid and educational apocalyptic operetta
Volksopera (BE)
The daughter of the prime minister and the son of the ruling despot fall in love on a fictitious island. Nothing new under the sun, you’d say. And yet the burgeoning relationship carries the risk of a big secret being revealed. Lies have been told about the gender of the children since they were born. A story about identity, about the trade-off between freedom and duty, about love and the choices one makes.
“Art does not always need to be ‘serious’ to be beautiful and relevant. Volksopera dusts off Offenbach and (re)makes the forgotten operetta to render it trendy again.” – Tobias Kokkelmans (dramaturgy O.)
