Home Sweet Home, de film

Cross-cultural video-opera chronicles a city in quarantine

O. & OPEN Rotterdam

Home Sweet Home is O.(peradagen Rotterdam)’s urban project. Following the success of Orfeo & Majnun in 2019, the festival wanted to open once again with a grandiose urban fest; this time at Afrikaanderplein (Rotterdam Zuid). Yet, COVID-19 meant it didn’t happen. O. did proceed with the urban project regardless, together with an enthusiastic community of Rotterdam artists and OPEN Rotterdam. The outcome is a six-part online opera that has been re-edited and compiled into one film for this occasion. Home Sweet Home breathes new life into the stories of a city in times of quarantine right across the numerous cultures and art forms that Rotterdam has in abundance.

This is a cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary project in which various Rotterdam partners collaborate. A number of familiar faces at the festival are also present, including the soprano Claron McFadden, actress Meral Polat, the opera collective Club Gewalt, and theatre maker Gabby Bakker.

Locatie
