En toen vielen we van de aarde

Physical and visual opera about life's relatable struggles

Anne van der Vegt (NL)

En toen vielen we van de aarde is a physical and visual language opera in which various personages stumble upon the question, “How life works”. Having no idea, they try to impress, meet up, and live in a world they do not yet understand. They long for chandeliers, palaces, and a standing ovation whereas they are clueless about how to keep standing. Relatable attempts, failures, perseverance, and interruptions cause them to engage in tight choreographies of ignorance in this confused costume drama.

Anne van der Vegt combines multiple fascinating elements: her love of the architecture of geometric costumes, the art of opera singing and classical music, and the simple beauty of a moving body. Freshly graduated from Toneelacademie Maastricht, the director presents her first work.

“This young and unique talent surprises with their fresh perspective on opera.” – Hans Blik, managing director O.

Locatie
