Dance of the Seven Veils
Gripping opera soundtrack, overpowering images, and ecstatic dance
Aïda Gabriëls & Oester (BE)
The biblical Salome has stirred the imagination of male artists for centuries. A seductive princess, who was a source of inspiration for countless painters and poets. Oscar Wilde wrote a world-famous poem about her irresistible Dance of the Seven Veils. But what remains of Salome if she is stripped of that raunchy masculine look?
In the interdisciplinary opera, Dance of the Seven Veils, the Flemish director Aïda Gabriëls removes the stereotypes and clichés that have been haunting the princess for years. A mix of thrilling dancing and overwhelming images with a savage soundtrack by AMENRA frontman Colin H. van Eeckhout, Pieter-Jan Van Assche (Innerwoud), and star soprano Astrid Stockman.
Programmed in collaboration with MOMO.
