Bon appetit
Chocolate cake finger-licking mini opera
Guja Sandholt & Heleen Vegter (IS/NL)
The legendary TV chef of the 1960s, Julia Child, famous for her grand gestures and animated voice, is given a new lease of life in Lee Hoiby’s mini-opera Bon appétit. The singer Guja Sandholt embodies Julia. Exactly as in the TV show, she will bake her signature chocolate cake seated at a table. Accompanied by pianist Heleen Vegter the mixer tends to sound somewhat more musical than usual. Egg whites are beaten, there are clouds of flour, and the chocolate melts as we watch. How on earth did she do it? Take a look at Bon appétit and, who knows … You may get to taste a piece of cake.
