Allegoria – About angels, devils, follies and foolishness
Musical performance brings to life 17th-century paintings
Zefiro Torna (BE)
The entertaining and poignant musical performance, Allegoria, imbues with new life the paintings of Adriaen Brouwer and some of his contemporaries including Pieter Breughel the Elder and Pieter Breughel the Younger, Frans Hals and Jan Steen.
Zefiro Torna draws from a wealth of picturesque folk and Beggar’s songs as well as from the song books and Books of Madrigals produced by publishers, poets and composers in the 16th and 17th –century ‘Golden Age’. From the stylised, poetic music of the citizenry to the merry folk music of minstrels and musicians. Soprano Annelies Van Gramberen is accompanied by a raft of instruments such as a recorder, bagpipe, crumhorn, lute, theorbo, baroque guitar, viola da gamba, drums and bells.
