Nina

Meditative and compelling tribute to Nina Simone

Claron McFadden, Luigi De Angelis, Fanny & Alexander (IT)

Nina is a moving tribute to the life and soul of Nina Simone, the legendary singer, pianist, writer and civil-rights activist. Through the powerful technique of heterodirection, soprano and performer Claron McFadden brings Nina Simone’s voice to life in a free and meditative re-enactment that allows for a deep and intimate connection with the artist’s inner world.

Directed by Luigi De Angelis, the performance seamlessly weaves together Nina Simone’s music, political views, wounds and energy into a captivating portrait. As part of Fanny & Alexander’s mimetic portrait series, Nina pays homage to a key figure whose words and art continue to resonate with urgency and relevance today.

“Nina Simone’s poignant but also warm story of her music, life and her coping with racism is superbly performed by Claron McFadden. When Claron appears on stage, Nina Simone seems to be present live.” – Guy Coolen, artistic director O.

“A performance that takes the spectator elsewhere, shocks him, brings a laugh and a tear […]. A magical performance that unfolds mainly thanks to the talent and technical control with which Nina Simone’s expressiveness comes into its own: Claron McFadden, who is truly sensational.”

Locatie
