Contemporary geohistorical performance about mother earth
Roman Grygoriv, Illia Razumeiko, Opera Aperta (UA)
When the soil gives a rich harvest, be ready for a great war. When seas dry up, rivers change their paths, and forests become uninhabitable due to radiation – an empire will fall soon. When the end of the world comes, the earth and the sky become one. This is how Gaia, Gaea, Terra, Maga, Mother Gaia speaks to us. Between rays of lights and video projections we wonder, can we still hear what Gaia is saying?
GAIA-24. Opera del Mondo is a contemporary geohistorical performance. The project, created by the award-winning composer duo Roman Grygoriv and Illia Razumeiko from Ukraine, is centered around exploring the consequences of destructive human activities, particularly the Russian invasion in Ukraine, as part of the global ecological crises.
GAIA-24. Opera del Mondo is part of First Night, the opening night of O. 2024. After the opening performance you can experience previews of performances throughout the theater that will be shown later in the festival.
