DEEP/END

A dance concert on the verge of the future

Club Gewalt en De Dansers (NL)

Humanity is heading towards a black hole called the future. How do we prepare ourselves for the unknown? Together, the Dancers and Club Gewalt make a proposal: let us reject the neoliberal perspective that dependency is a weakness, but instead firmly embrace it. Let us lean fully on each other and discover and recreate the rules of this. Let us be present. Let us actively dedicate our voices and bodies to the bigger picture.

DEEP/END is an exercise in interdependence, the practice of interdependence. We do not know where the future will take us, but one thing is certain: if we have to jump into the deep end, we will do it together. Club Gewalt and The Dancers find each other in a rousing and propulsive march towards the future, which must resonate and move on. Inspired by the lingering inevitability of The Planets: Mars (Holst) and the Bolero (Ravel), the bodies and sounds of ten performers merge into a musical and dancing relay. With the gently overwhelming dance of The Dancers, the anarchic singing voices of Club Gewalt, and a shared belief in music, the distinction between individuals disappears. After all, the individual is bankrupt: long live the collective.

“For a decade now, Club Gewalt has been disrupting the parties of the self-satisfied like no other. Now, it’s their turn.”

– De Volkskrant (on 10 Year Anniversary) ****

“As always in the irresistible dance concerts of De Dansers from Utrecht, the atmosphere starts playful and relaxed. Gradually, a cry for help creeps in, the fear of losing control.”

Locatie
