WANKLANK

Cinematic music theatre about a controversial philosopher

KASSETT & Ikarai (NL)

With a cinematic mix of jazz and classical music, WANKLANK takes a deep dive into the turbulent life of the philosopher at Leiden University, Gerard Bolland, who was deliberately forgotten. Bolland died a century ago. His thinking was controversial to say the least. He became the founder of the philosophy of fascism in the Netherland. His final address was even reprinted and distributed during World War II and his bust was removed from the Dutch Lower House of Parliament in 2003. One could say he was cancelled. Did he or didn’t he deserve this?

KASSETT and Ikarai’s actors and musicians get into Bolland’s head. If we can imagine how it would feel to walk in his shoes, we can do that for everybody. For we need to continue to try to relate to incomprehensible others. Don’t we? Or shouldn’t we even attempt to understand someone like Gerard Bolland?

“mc KASSETT revisits O. and that means you shouldn’t wait too long before booking…” – Hans Blik, managing director O.

Locatie
