NANOEK is developing a brave new remake of the successful off-Broadway musical The Last Five Years. Based on live performances by a rock-solid cast (Jolijn Henneman & Timo Tembuyser), we discuss the elements involved in developing such a brand-new version by an all-female team.

Together with Professor of Musical Millie Taylor and the audience, we delve into the dramaturgy and structure of the piece, study the female gaze, discuss the role of the director, examine the function of choreography and explain the technique and influence of translation. A theatrical and musical game of #womensplaining!

NANOEK has been acclaimed in the press and has been labelled an enrichment for the Dutch musical genre on several occasions. With The Last Five Years, NANOEK will bring an existing musical to theatres for the first time in season 2024/2025.
