Steefs O. Show

Enthralling arias, tear-jerking duets and lots of humour

Steef de Jong, Codarts Symphony Ochestra & gasten (NL)

Opera and cabaret may seem like two radically different worlds but nothing could be further from the truth. In Steef’s O. Show, both art forms merge into a variegated revue. A feast of recognition! The performance features the Codarts Symphony Orchestra, a superb cast, and guest appearances by the Dutch actor/writer/singer/performer Alex Klaasen and the well-known Dutch comedian and singer-songwriter Brigitte Kaandorp. Not to mention famous opera and operetta pieces. From Die Fledermaus (The Flittermouse), composed by Johann Strauss II, to a cardboard ballet, to De Parelvissers (The Pearl Fishers) by George Bizet. It will be clear to everyone that opera is not as ivory tower or serious as one might have expected.

Theatre maker Steef de Jong is the show’s artistic director. He is well-known, among others, from The Modern Art Revue and he also won the Mary Dresselhuys Award (2017). The music in Steef’s O. show is performed live by the 70-member Codarts Symphony Orchestra, led by Sander Teepen.

This introduction of a new genre, ‘opera cabaret’, kicks off a multi-year collaboration between the O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theatre. and Luxor Theatre. While O. represents the diversity and approachability of opera, Luxor offers a stage to high-quality cabaret. This fusion is evidence that two grandiose cultural genres can reach large numbers of people and be accessible to many.

Ticket including ‘break’ beverage!

“Make operetta great again! In an incredibly funny and imaginative performance with a huge orchestra, top guests and cardboard, Steef takes you into his very own universe.” – Joost Heijthuijsen (dramaturg O.)

Locatie
