Somnia
Close your eyes and be intoxicated by Hypnos
Zefiro Torna
Pow’rful Morpheus, let thy charms
Wrap the world in slumber’s arms,
With thy sweet composed numbers,
Rock each mortal in slumbers.
So no ear or eye shall know
Where we are or what we do.
– (William Webb, 17th C.)
Close your eyes and be intoxicated by Hypnos, the mythological god of sleep. Zefiro Torna pours a hallucinogenic brew of slumbering thoughts, nocturnal wandering, lonely grief, death longing, furtive fantasies, idealistic sanctuaries and lulling whispers. Baroque composers such as Johannes H. Kapsberger, John Dowland, Etienne Moulinié and Constantijn Huygens drew inspiration from this theme of night, sleep and dream for their songs and instrumental music. Top soprano Lore Binon’s voice cuts through the darkness, accompanied by atmospheric sounds on theorbo, lute, cello and electronics.
Lay back and listen to… lulling whispersss.
