O. Lab: TRIBUNE
See everyday city life transform into absurd opera performance
Anne en Lieke van der Vegt (NL)
I’m living in a city. But wtf. I don’t even know my neighbour. I only see strangers everywhere. Fremde Welt.
I say hello and you say nothing back.
My scooter is broken, now the world is perishing.
My ass is too small. A slap in my face.
How big is your problem, thought or concern?
The world is on fire. Where do you start?
Scroll or protest,
shop or recycle,
follow or avoid.
Aaaaa what would my neighbor do?
In TRIBUNE (research title), Lieke and Anne van der Vegt investigate how everyday city life can transform into an opera performance. In the middle of the city is a grandstand. Passersby are put in a spotlight. That which remains hidden is highlighted: everyday thoughts as libretto, footsteps as score. The smallest thoughts and doubts about the biggest issues. Within the O.Lab, Lieke and Anne explore the anonymity of the city, its alienation and longing for connection.
