O. Lab: GRANIET
Choristers in relationship therapy with the Rule of Law
Arlon Luijten / Little Wotan (NL)
“We all need security, but at the same time we are longing for freedom” – Esther Perel, couples therapist
This paradox makes love virtually impossible, but the operas grand and compelling! Meanwhile, at the collective level, our security is firmly under pressure and as individuals we often run exhausting circles in our dearly acquired freedom.
How much conditionality and expectation does our love life tolerate?
How many rules can our freedom handle?
Are we really that free or are we trapped in an obsession with self-optimization?
Can we still escape from ourselves? And get to the other?
What about our relationship with the rule of law?
And what kind of relationship are we really talking about?
Is a polyamorous relationship with the rule of law even possible?
GRANIET goes in search of the citizenship of the future.
Opera is the mother of total theater, connector of all disciplines. But can it open its arms even further and involve the audience in an immersive co-creation ritual in which their voices, perceptions and experiences also have a place in the work?
In GRANIET, 15 singers scrutinize themselves and their relationship with the rule of law. They get to work with a relationship therapist, a lawyer, a philosopher and an Ubuntu specialist.
In O.Lab, they preview the music, a composition for choral singing and organ, and test a conversation ritual. Together with you, their audience.
