Late Night Lullabies: Rina Mushonga
Acoustic Afro pop, soulful vocals and poetry
Rina Mushonga & Frans Verburg (ZW/NL)
The London based, Dutch-Zimbabwean pop innovator weaves a glittering constellation of warped synths, Afro-pop rhythms and addictive, soul-lifting vocal harmonies. Her sophomore album ‘In A Galaxy’ [PIAS], written and recorded in Peckham, London, is a dazzling reflection of Mushonga’s genre-defying musical approach and buzzing eclecticism that can perhaps be best traced back to Rina’s rich cultural background and a history of moving around. Rina’s recent single releases ‘To be the Birds’ and ‘Everything = Personal’ elegantly expand on her unique and captivating sound.
About Late Night Lullabies
Laid-back acoustic gigs at the end of your festival day. What could be nicer than to enjoy ‘voices’ at their purest, following an intensive day at the festival, leaning back, relaxed … Singers show a different – more vulnerable – side of themselves due to the instrumental constraints. From Turkish classics to a taste of the Weimar Cabaret, 70s folk, or soulful Afro-beats. Go with the flow as the artists ring in the night, each in their own way …
Ticket including cocktail (with or without alcohol)!
“Rina Mushonga has a voice that impacts straight away. And a sound that is a mix of existing genres and yet completely new at the same time.” – Joost Heijthuijsen (dramaturg O.)
