First Dates: Raw Roets x Cora Burggraaf
Rap meets opera
Cora Burggraaf & Raw Roets (Cyrano Kout)
From riveting to raw, the voice of rapper and singer Raw Roets – Cyrano Kout – is among the most unique in modern Dutch music. Roets is a consummate artist who effortlessly alternates between two extremes: the unpolished Roets and a more vulnerable Cyrano. In his music, he is openly trying to find himself as he reflects on his sometimes grey surroundings while dreaming in technicolour. Typically, his honest and arresting lyrics are embedded in musical and spatial productions.
Cora Burggraaf has been singing all over the world in major opera houses such as the Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich), the Royal Opera House (London), the San Francisco Opera, the Salzburg Festival, and The National Opera (Amsterdam). She has worked with many renowned orchestras and conductors. Cora gave numerous song recitals and chamber music concerts with great colleagues in venues that include the Wigmore Hall in London, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and the Frick Collection in New York City. Having started to explore her theatrical talents in recent years, she has initiated a number of special projects.
About First Dates
Two singers (male/female) perform together for the first time during First Dates as they find inspiration in each other and in the special location where they meet. O. matches up performers from different musical worlds for a first date. Imagine a duet between an opera diva and a rapper. Or, a queen of pop jamming with a classical Arabic singer. Perhaps the initial encounter will have a follow-up, who knows, but it is thrilling for musicians and audience alike, in any case!
