ENTRECÔTE
Musical happening in a butcher shop; a symbol of our consumer society
Liesa Van der Aa / One Trick Pony (BE)
Following PLAY, Liesa Van der Aa and One Trick Pony have created ENTRECÔTE, the brand-new second part of their triptych about power, Court of Choice. Whereas PLAY revolved around a power game playing out on a tennis court, ENTRECÔTE is staged in a butcher shop; the arena for the whims of consumers and producers. The customer is king, but where does their responsibility end? Does the shopper guarantee the survival of the shopkeeper? Does the buyer realise this? And is it possible to draw clear boundaries between buying and selling? What or who holds the real power?
All these issues pop up in ENTRECÔTE‘s allegorical slaughterhouse. From behind the abundantly filled meat counter, this musical spectacle fillets capitalist society by showing us a dark, erotic, and entertaining scene. Emotion and ecstasy around the slaughter and splendour of gleaming pink flesh – a performance about the unfathomable and irresistible human will and about the roots of our desires and instincts.
“Super funny visual music theatre with a keen eye for detail. Everyday absurdism in the style of French filmmaker Jacques Tati, set in a butcher shop with endless orders of meats.” – Joost Heijthuijsen (dramaturg O.)
