De Barbier
A cheerful version of Rossini’s masterpiece about love
DESCHONECOMPANIE & Muziektheater Transparant (BE)
In De Barbier (The Barber), a woman is searching for a time when people were passionate about fighting for love. An era when love was still something to sing about and re-invent, artfully. The woman isn’t a nobody. She is the Countess who, in this adaptation of Le Nozze di Figaro, wants to keep her husband at any cost. Young gallivanting Cherubino has also flown in from Mozart’s opera. Together, they impersonate all of the characters that populate the Countess’s adoring musings.
Tom Goossens and Wouter Deltour transform one of the most famous and spectacular operas from history, Il barbiere di Siviglia van Rossini, derived from Le Nozze, into an intimate double duet for two actors and two musicians.
