Coming of Age

Moving musical theatre from three opera divas-on-age

Spinthout & Cora Burggraaf (NL)

They have been working on it all their lives: their voices. These three singers made themselves heard everywhere, accustomed as they were to the spotlight. But with age, they became quieter. Because age can be heard, and perfection is what we strive for, right? In Coming of Age, three singers break the silence.

Three older singers (70+) have to reinvent themselves after a life on the big stage. They take you into the possibilities and beauty of their older voices. And let you hear what they have to offer right now. Does their voice still sound? And how do we listen to it? Do we only hear the transience, or also something else – a bucket of life experience, charisma, their own story? A humorous look at the position of women, our overfocus on perfection and the benefits of ageing.

“Beautiful tribute to the opera voice. Musical theatre from three opera divas-on-age breaks the fact that older singers could no longer move. This production proves otherwise.” – Guy Coolen, artistic director O.

Locatie
