Caffè Sospeso

Gritty music theatre about the future of musicians

Cello Sonate i.s.m. OT Rotterdam (NL)

Caffè sospeso is a contemporary, light, interdisciplinary, and gritty music theatre performance that, fortunately, leaves plenty of room for laughter. Caffè Sospeso, aka ‘donated coffee’, features two homeless cellists, a mother and son, who have to survive on the streets. What does your future look like if, as a musician, the only thing that you can still rely on is the audience’s generosity? If all other sources of support have dropped away and creating art is something that happens outside, is what you are offering still seen and valued?

This performance is about being displaced, unseen, and the decline of art and the artist. A mix of low art, high art, new cello compositions, spoken word, humming, beatboxing, and piano.

“Cello Sonate and OT return to O. with a surprising performance about two homeless cellists.” – Guy Coolen, artistic director O.

“From a musical perspective it is often on the ball with a starring role for cellist Doris Hochscheid. […] As an actress, Hochscheid is visibly enjoying herself and she is a wonderful cellist.”

Locatie
