CANCELLED – Between Two Lights
Spiritual journey in large-scale music theatre piece
Nederlands Kamerkoor, Huang Ruo & Muziektheater Transparant
Unfortunately, this performance has been canceled for O. 2023.
The music-theatre work Between Two Lights, written by Huang Ruo, one of today’s most interesting Chinese composers, looks at the transition from one life to another. A moment of silence, of non-existence. Is this where it ends or is it the dawn of a new perspective? A question that does concerns us as individuals as well as humanity in its entirety. We live in a series of perpetual crises: the corona crisis, the climate crisis. Are we capable of making the right choices?
In his oeuvre, Huang Ruo builds on a novel musical style that bridges the gap between two musical universes that seem totally different at first glance: the worlds of western and Asian music. Between Two Lights is a sensational performance by the Netherlands Chamber Choir, in coproduction with O. and Muziektheater Transparant. The director is the internationally renowned Karmina Šilec, who created a number of breathtaking performances with her choir Carmina Slovenica.
