ALMA

Surprising adaptation of Faust in the era of unabashed hyper-narcissism

Fabrice Murgia & Peggy Lee Cooper (BE)

The music theatre performance ALMA takes you into the centre of a universe. It is inspired by Goethe’s Faust. Director Fabrice Murgia and drag queen Peggy Lee Cooper translate the Faust myth into the world of reality TV as they create a sensuous performance that tweaks the codes of music, theatre, audio-visual elements, sensation, and cabaret. Faust’s pact with the devil takes a topical and unexpected turn in ALMA.

In an era when we constantly put ourselves in the picture, and diminish ourselves so as to become a “brand”, in order to be “loved”, our lives get fictionalised. Celebrity, appearance, and looks seem to trump talent, knowledge, and inner wisdom. ALMA calls into question the vulnerability of striving for success. A “beautiful” mirror of contemporary society.

The show contains two parts of 50 minutes and a 30 minutes interval.

“In 2019 Sylvia was an absolute festival favorite. Fabrice Murgia returns to O. with his own Faust translation. It promises to be a scintillating (drag) show.” – Guy Coolen, artistic director O.

Locatie
